Overwhelmed

“it’s just
too much”
is a lonely cry
one whispered -
underwhelming
the overwhelmingness

it is a statement
bound by tears
as invisible
as they come,
overshadowed
by everything;
the noise
the movement
the color
the weight
the weight
the weight

it’s enough
to crush a soul,
to suffocate it,
tinted blue
for lack of oxygen
until nothing matters anymore
and it resorts

to nothingness

No Turning Back

we lost ourselves to the woods
tripping over bone and shadow
trees casting light onto the worn path
I wish we had stayed forever
making our way forward
unafraid of the silent moon
or footsteps
or sand trickling down
falling faster and faster
we didn’t yet know
we were standing
over the edges of our lives
so sure of our footing
on glass bridges
even as the ground turned to ash
behind us
I wish we had stayed in those moments
suspended
unaware of a dawn
of an end
of the dim brightness behind our eyelids
when everything else is dark
