don’t forget new york

I picture you sitting on top of the skyline
Tearing into a book and getting lost in each page
Where you’re finally away from the suburbs’ whispers
And the leeches have faded into time

Perhaps you’ll find someone amidst the bustling crowds
Who will listen to you sing and second-guess yourself
To tell you the things that’ll put your mind at ease
And inspire you to create

Far from now I can see you
Sipping coffee in the world’s best coffee shop
Or telling the pigeons your secrets
When the distant past is long forgotten
As well as the goblins from another life

Most of all I wish you find yourself
In a little apartment plastered with posters
Head-banging to hell while dancing to tunes

Remember me from that God-forsaken town
When the subtitles get too loud
Or when the city feels dull

If life has taught Ellie Sieber one thing at eighteen years of age, it’s that everything is fleeting. Both good things and bad. All we can do is try to exist through it all, because life is ever changing.
