banana

“Banana” is inspired by my childhood memories. It’s based on an old photo of me with my family. I chose this photo because I wanted to capture a moment of intimacy within my past that also reflects who I am as a person and as a Chinese-American. It’s titled “Banana” because bananas are my favorite fruit, they remind me of the bright coloring I used for the painting itself, and it’s a common way to refer to East Asians who are considered “white-washed” by their peers, which is something that I can relate to and is an integral part of why I chose this subject matter in the first place.
