isolated

I am an island
surrounded by a foggy sea,
where tempests rage as mighty
as a great beast awakened from his slumber
and as long
as forever can last.

A monster lurks and prowls my lands.
It’s as vicious as a rabid wolf,
and as dangerous.
Even those who traverse the fog,
soon find themselves set upon
by claws and gnashing teeth.
No one stays long.

O that this wretched fog would vanish
and this infernal storm quell!
So that I might see beyond my shores
and perhaps see that my sea
is not a sea at all.

But instead what I thought to be an infinite abyss was merely a small lake
and that there is land all around me after all.
