High school Submission Guidelines

WE ARE CURRENTLY OPEN for high school submissions.

Submissions and all other questions should be sent to: submit@upnorthlit.org

NOTES ON SUBMISSION: 

Submissions are free for high school students.

Please indicate NAME / SCHOOL / (GENRE) SUBMISSION on your email subject line. Submissions without this won’t be read.

Please include a short cover letter in the email body introducing yourself and your work (150 words or less).

If you are submitting multiple pieces, please put them together in one PDF file.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome, provided we are notified in the event that a piece is accepted elsewhere.

Please allow for 6 months to pass before reaching out for a submission update. 

FICTION/NON-FICTION: Fiction and nonfiction submissions up to 4,000 words. We welcome more than one story or essay if the total submission is 4,000 words or under. 

POETRY: Poetry submissions of up to 5 poems (no longer than 15 pages).  Please make sure every new poem appears on a new page.

ART/PHOTOGRAPHY: All forms of art and photography submissions of up to 5 images. Please make sure every new piece appears on a new page.
